May 2021 Round Up

Myth and Folklore

Troy  by Stephen Fry.  Fantastic retelling of the story of Troy.

Poetry

Complete Poems of Paul Lawrence Dunbar by Paul Lawrence Dunber (Mint Editions).  – Nice compact and complete collection.  The nature poetry is good and I didn’t know Dunbar could be so snarky.

Children’s

I am A Clone Trooper – Little Golden Book.  Cute.

Njinga of Ndongo and Matamba AND Idia of the Benin Kingdom both by Ekiuwa Aire – These two children’s books about famous women in two African kingdoms are well worthy reading.  They also include appendices.

Audio

Murder Most Foul  by Nick Stochney – BBC radio series about famous murders.

No Stone Unturned by Steve Jackson.  History of the science of looking for dead bodies.

Travel

Atlas of Cursed Places  by Olivier La Carrer – It’s good.  No pictures in the Kindle version however.

Science Fiction and Fantasy

Resistance Reborn by Rebecca Roanhorse.  Roanhorse’s Star Wars novel highlights Poe and Wedge.

Polterheist (Esther Diamond #5) by Laura Resnick.  You will never look at a visit to Santa the same way.

Religion

The Wounded Healer  by Henri J. M.  Nouwen – more people who call themselves Christian should read this.

God is not A Christian  by Desmond Tutu – a collection of speeches and writing.  Well worth reading considering the recent war between Gaza and Israeli.

Graphic Novel/Comics

Goldie Vance Vol 2 – this was fun.  Nice working in of NASA and beauty pageants.

Beasts of Burden Occupied Territory #2  A good installment of the Dogs of the Round Table.

Harley Quinn Breaking Glass Sneak Peek – Interesting start

Cuisine Chinoise – lovely translated comic featuring Chinese myths.

Nonfiction

A Promised Land by Barack Obama.  Long but well worth the read.

Letters from Tove – a collection of letters from Tove Janson of Moomin fame.  Quite a bit about Finland and the Moomins in it as well some beautiful nature writing.
