In Montmartre: Picasso, Matisse and the Birth of Modernist Art by Sue Roe – a good look at the birth of the movement in Montmartre during the turn of the century.

Children’s

Bella Dancerella Series - Christmas In Paris, At the Fair, The Cinderella Wand by  Poppy Rose – Aussie series about a young girl who is studying ballet.  Bella isn’t perfect- she comes in second and third in some stories – but the books are a bit strange.

Aesop’s Fables on Stage  by  Julie Meighan – This collection of adapted Aesop Fables is good.  Ideal for small groups and young children.

Little Red The Detective by Lois Wickstrom – a good twist on the story.  Wickstrom has Hood use science and observation to solve her problems.  Really great.

Sea Monsters and Other Delicacies  (Awfully Beastly Business 2) by David Sindan – It is an interesting idea of a magical RSCPA.

Fantasy/Horror/Sci-fi

A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking by T. Kingfisher – Yes, it is as good as everyone says it is.

When Things Get Dark  edited by Ellen Datlow – Collection in honor of Shirley Jackson.  This book has several good stories in it.

Legend of the Mer  by Angel Leya – it is an interesting story that riffs on the Little Mermaid.  Can’t say that it made me want to read the next book in the series, but it is not bad.

The Alchemaster’s Apprentice (Zamonia #5) – It is always nice to visit Zamonia.  This story about a cat trying to save himself is fun.

The Willows  by Algenon Blackwood – Great use of setting but not as spooky as I thought it was going to be.

Northing But Blackened Teeth by Cassandra Khaw.  Good use of mood and setting, characters are not so great.

Terminal Boredom by Izumi Suzuki – collection of Japanese Sci-fi.

Fiction

Midnight’s Children  by Salman Rushdie – You can see why this won the Booker.

Folklore etc.

The Unidentified: Mythical Monsters, Alien Encounters, and Out Obsession with the Unexplained by Colin Dickey – Follow up to his Ghostland.  It’s a good read, especially when he talks about Everest.

General Nonfiction

Bloody Crossroads  by Danny Goldberg – A look at what artists, mostly actors and musicians in this book, did in regards to the 2020 election.  Focus is on those working against Trump.

Artemisia Gentlieschi  by Shelia Barker- this book to published early next year, is a good introduction for person just learning about the artist.

Glitch Feminism by Legacy Russel – new way to look at feminism.

Mystery

Pine by Francine Toon – This engrossing book set in a small Scottish town makes excellent use of mood.

Nineteen Eighty (Red Riding #3) by David Peace – The third installment was not as good as the first two.

The Body in the Library  by Agatha Christie – Miss Marple can be quite cutting when talking about men.

The Moving Finger by Agatha Christie – I wanted to punch Jerry, but I really liked Johanna.

Hello Transcriber by Hannah Morrissey – interesting main character but weak plot.

Romance

Scandal Takes the Stage (The Wicked Quills of London 2) by Eva Leigh – a fun romance.
