Comics

FCBD 2021 Horizon Zero Dawn - I have never played the game, so this wasn't bad but that is  pretty much all I can say.

Star Wars The High Republic FCBD (2021) - At least these Padwans look like they could have graduated high school.  What is it with child soldiers in the SW universe?

Eve Online #1 - This was cool and interesting.  It is sci-fi series with people flying fighters while they are in goo, but it is so engaging and interesting.

Galaxy The Prettiest Star FCBD 2022 #1 - This is actually a sweet LGBTQIA+ story.  I like it.

Fortnite x Marvel Nexus War #1 - meh.

Teen Titans: Beast Boy Loves Raven FCBD - I like the artwork.

DC League of Super Pets FCBD #1 - This was cute.

Harrow County Vol 3 - I love the Bernice story in this collection.  It doesn't move the over all story forward but the focus on supporting characters was nice.

FCBD Shadowman #1 - I might track down the rest of this series.

FCBD 2021 The Witcher/Critical Role -  I preferred the Critical Role story in this one.  It was so good.

Fantasy/Science Fiction

Backbone of the World (Amazon's Trespass Collection)  by Stephen Graham Jones - This is an excellent short story about prairie  dogs or is it?

The Tiger Came to the Mountain (Amazon's Trespass Collection) by Silvia Moreno-Garica  - very light on the fantasy, but a really good story.

Bloody Summer (Amazon's Trespass Collection) by Maria Carmen Machado - I didn't really like this one, but the frame of the story is an interesting concept.

Wildlife (Amazon's Trespass Collection) by Jeff Vandermeer - the open ending might put some people off, but I enjoyed this.

Stag (Amazon's Trespass Collection) by Karen Russell - I keep trying to read Russel but we just don't mesh.

A Righteous Man (Amazon's Trespass Collection) by Tochi Onyebuchi -  a combination of colonialism and fantasy, powerful.

Clockwork Boys (Clocktaur War #1) by T. Kingfisher - funny fantasy novel about a dirty four - actually a dirty three and a monk.

Minor Mage by T. Kingfisher - short fantasy novel about a young mage sent to fetch rain.  It is a quest tale but does deal with difficult questions.  Easily read by older children and adults (there are some scary sequences).

Plain Bad Heroines by Emily M. Danforth - this is more gothic than straight horror, but the writing is engrossing.  It details the events at a girls school and the attempt to film a movie about those events years later.

Fiction

Are We Ever Our Own by Gabrielle Lucille Fuentes - excellent collection of short stories.  Read the full review here

Mystery

Adventure of the Egyptian Tomb, The Case of the Missing Will, The Cornish Mystery, The Market Basing Mystery, The Mystery of Hunter's Lodge, The Jewel Robbery at the Grand Metropolitain by Agatha Christie - these are a group of Hercule Poirot short stories that were free for kindle.  I hadn't really read Poirot before, and there is a Holmes/Watson vibe going on.  But Poirot is actually far more supportive of women than I would have thought.

Miss Marple Complete Short Stories by Agatha Christie - very good collection, though I prefer the novels.
