Girl Last Seen by Nina Laurin My rating: 1 of 5 stars I hate being the first person to give a book one star on Goodreads, I really do. I really hate it when I am conflicted about that one star rating, especially when it is a debut novel. But two stars means okay, and I didn’t find the book okay. Official rating is 1.5. The basic premise of this novel is that a woman, Lainey, who escaped her rapist/abductor realizes that the latest missing girl looks like her and may be the first victim of the same sadist, the first in several years. Reaction to the book The Betrayal of Anne Frank

While there have been articles and responses in the Dutch press about the recent book The Betrayal of Anne Frank by Rosemary Sullivan, much of the US press has stayed quiet about the controversary and issues surrounding the book as well as the methods of the investigative team. This was true even before the Russian invasion of the Ukraine. By and large, most of the English reviews and comments about the book appear to be largely positive or simply promotional. As someone who has read the book and had issues with it, I find these to be a bit eyebrow raising. For instance, few reviews of any type (formal and informal) point out the lack of Holocaust historian on the team. Even if you are not an expert on the Holocaust, this should have been a point of note. Additionally, even some readers consider such a lack of an expert unimportant. Self-published Authors Appreciation Week - Children's Books

There are a tremendous amount of self published books out there. This week The Fish Shelf, along with other bloggers, is highlighting self published authors that could use a bit more recognition. Today, we are focusing on Children’s Literature Mary Nhin - Has a two series out that are good. The first is The UnicornPrenur series, which features Ariel and her different interests/jobs. The books include activities. The other is Mini Movers and Shakers which are about real life heroes such as Serena Williams and Mae Jemison. There is a third series, Ninja Life Hacks, as well. Bethany Stahl’s Save the Earth series features a different environmental theme in each book. She also has a very good book about mermaids, and she uses diverse characters.
