Weekly Reads March 13-20

Children's

When Day Becomes Night by Jules Miller - cute little story about the sun and moon switching places.

Amina's Wall by Nicole Major - children's book about the construction of Queen Amina's Walls (today in Northern Nigeria, at the time the Kingdom of Zazzau).  It is good, though I wish the book had focused more on her doing the walls during her reign as opposed to advising her father to build them (though that is still good).  It really is a good book.

Archer Otters: Jungle Rumblers by Strawberry Pencil Magic - not as good as the others in the series.  But if your child likes video games, they should enjoy this.

The Sea Otters Who Kept Trying by Joan Bang - cute story told by otters about how they learned to open shells.

Alice Eloise's Silver Linings: The Story of a Silly Service Dog by Sarah Kathryn Frey - about a dog becoming a service dog.  It's okay.

Mr Claws Decks the Halls by  Lindsay Coker Lucky - a story that is basically The Grinch but a mouse who steals out of greed.

 Feminist

Feminism or Death  by Francoise d'Eaubonne - a classic French feminist text dealing with eco-feminism.  A bit too strange though when she writes about Asia for the sources all seem French and European.

History

Animals in Ancient Greece by Charles River Editors -A brief but good look at how the Ancient Greeks viewed various animals - both real and mythological.

Poetry

Call Us What We Carry by Amanda Gorman - another excellent collection of poetry, including those written during the pandemic.
